[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:22] Speaker B: Hey, welcome to Tailgate Beers. We got Ryan and Austin. Here we are here. Tailgate and tall boys. Bloomington, Illinois, Day four. Last day, thankfully. Last day. My body is hurting. I'm sure your body's hurting as well. We have a special guest with us tonight for very different reasons. All different reasons. We got Pat Clark joining us. [00:00:40] Speaker A: How we doing? Wait, hold on. How are we doing, guys? [00:00:43] Speaker B: Pat Clark is. Is a festival photographer. [00:00:47] Speaker C: Personality. [00:00:48] Speaker A: Videographer. [00:00:49] Speaker B: Videographer. There you go. He's also has been a editor of the Tailgate Beers podcast. [00:00:56] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:00:57] Speaker C: Behind the scenes. [00:00:57] Speaker A: I've seen their. Your faces a lot on my computer screen. [00:01:00] Speaker B: Like, a lot. [00:01:01] Speaker A: Too much. [00:01:03] Speaker B: What were you doing when you were looking at our faces on the screen? [00:01:06] Speaker A: You don't want to know. No, but seriously, I put it in categories of like, oh, there's an Austin moment, there's a Ryan moment. I wonder if Ryan knows he looks like this. Bunch of stuff like that. Because you know this. You edit them now, right? [00:01:20] Speaker B: I do, yeah. [00:01:21] Speaker A: He edits them now. And you've been seeing how. How to build and get better and [00:01:27] Speaker B: better and the mannerisms. [00:01:28] Speaker A: That's the same with the video and tailgate and all of it. [00:01:31] Speaker B: You don't know until you start watching yourself on camera. You don't know the little things that you do that are just like nervous little ticks. [00:01:38] Speaker A: Which reminds me. Which reminds me, everyone's been sending me videos of me doing me. Yeah. Yeah, I like to dance. Just a little bit of, you know, context. In my contract, it says I have to dance while I video. It doesn't, but no, it's just like I want to make people feel happy, make them get out of their shell. You can hear my voice going. And yeah, I look like a creature when I see it from a third party perspective. [00:02:02] Speaker C: But. But what people don't see is how hard it is when you are behind the camera and actually trying to get people to liven up. They just walk three miles in. They're pissed off about something. They're hot, they're tired, whatever it is, they're happy. Maybe they are, but I try to [00:02:20] Speaker A: be the happiest person in this whole festival. [00:02:22] Speaker B: People love it. [00:02:23] Speaker C: And no one sees the behind the camera. [00:02:25] Speaker A: I went into a security guard's chest last night and cried. It was weird. [00:02:29] Speaker C: You did. [00:02:30] Speaker A: After you fell. Wait, let me ask you guys a question. How fun is this? This is your first year doing just this, right? [00:02:36] Speaker C: It's been interesting. [00:02:38] Speaker A: Work your ass off all the time. Not saying you don't work. [00:02:41] Speaker C: Right. [00:02:41] Speaker A: How is it this year I think it's. [00:02:44] Speaker C: I think it's been good. We. We didn't really know what to expect coming in for multiple levels and reasons, but Ryan and I tried to plan. Try to think of all these best case scenarios of what we could do, but we've audible a bunch over it, and we've had great opportunities to get artists on here. And then, as always, people like, yep, dude, I'm doing it. I'm in. Wyatt Flores was in. And then 10 minutes before, like, yeah, man, I'm gonna. We gotta practice this song. This is not gonna work out. And it happens all the time. [00:03:13] Speaker A: We're right in the middle of it, man. [00:03:15] Speaker B: And that's. That's a tough part. It's just. It's. You can't make a schedule. You can't build a schedule around this. It's. It's. Hey, I'm ready to do it now. Yeah, it's, you know, Austin getting somebody to go pick them up in a golf cart and getting them here and [00:03:26] Speaker A: trying to hit anyone. [00:03:28] Speaker C: Right. He's here. The man. [00:03:29] Speaker A: Welcome. [00:03:31] Speaker C: We officially cannot talk about Dan anymore. Yeah, that was a short segment. [00:03:38] Speaker A: First of all, I've never seen you happier. Second of all, Dan is one of my best friends in life. And we started what. Don't start. [00:03:46] Speaker C: Here we go. [00:03:48] Speaker A: No, but this is our 12th tailgate. And tall boys 12. [00:03:51] Speaker C: 12. [00:03:52] Speaker A: I'm 33. Yeah, that doesn't add up. No, but we did four one year, three one year, two one year. And we just forgot how many we've done. [00:04:01] Speaker D: Yeah, he just. [00:04:02] Speaker A: He just. [00:04:02] Speaker D: Remember the other night. [00:04:03] Speaker C: Yeah, that's crazy. [00:04:04] Speaker A: Wild, man. It's wild. [00:04:06] Speaker C: Before you came in, he was asking about how our experience has been with doing this podcast. And there was a lot of unknowns, I think, for both of us. And even, like this setup, we thought of all these crazy things at the end of the day. One, you don't even really see anything below the table. [00:04:20] Speaker A: Sure. [00:04:21] Speaker C: We've had to move it around. [00:04:22] Speaker A: I don't have pants on. [00:04:23] Speaker C: Yeah, we've had to do all sorts of stuff. And this one is. I think this is the best setup we've had. This is great. [00:04:29] Speaker B: We're starting to see some of the. The video and audio that we even have from these. And. And we're pleased with it so far and looking forward to getting back in the studio. [00:04:37] Speaker A: And. What, you were just out there ripping some photos? [00:04:39] Speaker D: Dude, we just had to turn all of Tucker Whitmore. I mean, I just got it done. [00:04:42] Speaker A: Whitmore or Wetmore. [00:04:46] Speaker C: But just like for you guys, when you have to audible and run somewhere else. We were in the middle of Joe Stam, and all of a sudden they're like, hey, Logan, Crosby needs picked up. He's coming to do the potential. I love Joe Stam to death, but I'm also kind of like, dude, I get a podcast with you anytime. Like, I'm kind of like, let's go. Let's get the next one. But then gotta get different cards in. Gotta cut that, make sure we get it saved, because that's like a huge fear of mine. [00:05:10] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:11] Speaker C: As you guys with your stuff. Oh, my God, the fear. [00:05:14] Speaker A: We have a nightmare story. We won't talk. [00:05:16] Speaker C: The fear of deleting something and the fear of uploading. And then every time I go to wipe a card. [00:05:22] Speaker D: Oh, dude. [00:05:22] Speaker C: I'm like, double check, double check. Is it all there? [00:05:25] Speaker D: Do we tell them? [00:05:26] Speaker A: No, no, no. [00:05:27] Speaker D: Okay. Let's just say I. I kind of messed up yesterday and lost a couple photos. But it's like, when you say a couple. [00:05:33] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:34] Speaker C: What was it? [00:05:34] Speaker B: What was the reality of it? [00:05:36] Speaker D: 450. [00:05:37] Speaker B: Wow. [00:05:38] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:05:38] Speaker A: 450. 450. [00:05:40] Speaker C: The delete button's a powerful thing. [00:05:41] Speaker A: That's scary. Oh, so he just goes out and sprays and pray. [00:05:44] Speaker B: I was gonna say, in the grand scheme of things, 450. I mean, that's like, you don't spray and pray. [00:05:47] Speaker A: A. [00:05:47] Speaker B: Hold down for a few seconds. What is that? 450. [00:05:50] Speaker D: I mean, I'm shooting at. I mean, that's probably like three minutes if that. But I don't spray. I. I strategically absolutely set up a shot and then burst it. [00:05:59] Speaker B: We all do. [00:06:00] Speaker D: Oh, thank you, Patrick. [00:06:03] Speaker C: We had Lil Z on here earlier, so the mic's a little messed up. We had to get him up on that booster. [00:06:08] Speaker A: I was talking to Taylor, and I was like, holy. I didn't see it down there. He's like, you, Patrick. And started punching me. I'm like, it tickles. Love that guy. [00:06:15] Speaker D: Dude. [00:06:16] Speaker A: And they got him a Jeep. You see the Jeep? [00:06:18] Speaker C: I drove it. It's proportional. [00:06:20] Speaker D: How did you even fit in that? [00:06:21] Speaker C: It's six. [00:06:23] Speaker A: It pops. [00:06:24] Speaker B: Wheelies. [00:06:24] Speaker A: Wow. Jesus. [00:06:25] Speaker D: Well, so you guys are understanding, like, file storage and even just the cameras, right? Yeah. Like, what it. What is it? I mean, there's a lot going on, except you got to flip that lens onto a different. Oh, no, you. Did you put that. Thank you. [00:06:37] Speaker C: But it's only because. And this is where I get the criticism from you guys, but we're on our budget that we are getting the Problem is, is that camera shuts off at 30 minutes. [00:06:45] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:06:45] Speaker C: And I have to have somebody here to hit the record button. All these things. [00:06:50] Speaker A: He goes, this camera wasn't working for 10 minutes back here. I don't know what was going. [00:06:54] Speaker C: I didn't tell anybody back here about it. And I'm staring at it. I'm like, what the is going on with this thing? My polarized lenses. [00:07:00] Speaker A: Couldn't see the screen. Couldn't see the screen, dude. Could not. [00:07:03] Speaker D: Hilarious. [00:07:03] Speaker A: How to get plastic. I've done that. [00:07:04] Speaker D: He's done that a million times. [00:07:06] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:07:07] Speaker C: We got Taylor. Holder's gonna be coming up, and I have questions for you guys. I've known both of you in different ways as far as through the festival, outside of the festival. How did it come about, as far as you two knowing each other, meeting? Let's talk about the first time. [00:07:21] Speaker A: Well, it's like, I went to Louisville Slugger. I was our first tailgate. [00:07:25] Speaker B: Right. [00:07:25] Speaker A: I invited a friend, and he just botched the photos. [00:07:28] Speaker C: Right. [00:07:28] Speaker A: It was horrible. [00:07:29] Speaker D: Wait, do you want to know how we met, or do you want to know how we got into tailgate? [00:07:31] Speaker A: No, that's too long of a story. [00:07:33] Speaker D: Yeah, it's a long story. [00:07:33] Speaker C: I always want to know how you guys got connected and how this became a thing. [00:07:37] Speaker A: We talked about this multiple times this weekend. About. I needed another photographer because my first guy didn't work out. We've known each other for years. Yeah. And he happened to post the right thing at the right time. [00:07:48] Speaker D: Stuck into a festival. [00:07:49] Speaker A: He stuck in a festival. And if he didn't post those photos at that time, I wouldn't have DM'd him. He did the first two years for free, and then after that, he's a staple here. [00:08:00] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:08:01] Speaker A: Chris Stapleton, baby. [00:08:02] Speaker D: Thank you, baby. [00:08:03] Speaker A: I like that. Yeah. [00:08:04] Speaker C: Now look at him. He's got all the gear. He's running around with 14. Do you see how big this frick is? He's like the Rambo of Team 1600. [00:08:12] Speaker D: Well, 600. [00:08:13] Speaker A: 600. [00:08:13] Speaker D: But no. I mean, tailgate has given me so many opportunities to try new things and just really be a better photographer, too. And working with Pat is a trip and a half. You know that. Oh, yeah. And. But I was looking through his footage the other night, and I was like, I can't believe how good these shots are. [00:08:30] Speaker C: Like, how's the video. The. The old school video camera doing? [00:08:34] Speaker D: We pulled that out last week. There's some. [00:08:36] Speaker A: But there's a whole new dynamic this year. There's a whole new Dynamic this year. Right. Because we got, like, six or seven people back there working with us. We got WI Fi, we're dropping cards, and someone else is editing my stuff. That's a weird feeling for me. [00:08:48] Speaker C: Right. [00:08:49] Speaker A: I didn't know I left the camera on all the time. And so he just hears me talking all the time. [00:08:54] Speaker D: Dude. Some of the funniest things ever. [00:08:55] Speaker A: We laughed for hours listening to me. Coming up. Yo, what's up, guys? So you're Steve. Oh, like, no way. That's crazy. It's just. I done this that many times. I just get better and better at interacting with people. And you got to shoot your shot. It doesn't always work. But he's taking notes from me on that, and I've taken notes on him. From the technical side, I'd say. [00:09:18] Speaker D: I like that. [00:09:19] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:19] Speaker D: Yeah, I'll take that, Pat. I'll take that. [00:09:21] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:09:21] Speaker C: Dan, what is. What is your background? And how did you get into taking photos and photography and do you do. What else do you do for work and freelance stuff? [00:09:30] Speaker D: Photography. Videography has pretty much taken over my life at this point, which is. It's a blessing because I get to meet so many people, be in so many different avenues, and it's very, very cool. But my dad was a photographer growing up, and then I played golf and I got into photography, and I was the kid that shot all the yearbook photos, and he. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Oh, you're that kid. [00:09:47] Speaker D: I was that kid. I was that kid. And, yeah, my dad made me shoot on film for the first year that I was shooting, so. [00:09:54] Speaker C: And he and your dad came last year and shot. [00:09:56] Speaker D: Yeah, it was. That's really special. And especially because I think it was Father's Day weekend last year. [00:10:00] Speaker B: It was. [00:10:00] Speaker A: Oh, I gotta text my dad right now. Father's Day. Happy Father's Day. [00:10:05] Speaker D: Hey, Happy Father's Day. [00:10:06] Speaker A: You got kids, right? Yeah, they're right there sitting out in the peanut gallery. [00:10:11] Speaker D: But, yeah, I got into. I was shooting a lot and then moved back to Chicago after school, and then I got a job at the same university. And then that's when Pat and I started getting to hang out a little bit more because it was in Davenport, Quad Cities. And then it just started spiraling, dude. And you don't know what next opportunity you're gonna get if. If you really just keep grinding. And there's always a door that's gonna open when you least expect it. Yeah. Especially in the creative field. So it's very fun. [00:10:37] Speaker C: And you live right in the heart of all this, right in Nashville. [00:10:39] Speaker D: I'm in Nashville, Downtown Nashville. It is. It is crazy. It's crazy. [00:10:43] Speaker B: But so you guys are attention to detail kind of guys? [00:10:46] Speaker D: Oh, yeah, I am. [00:10:48] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. I'm more of the vibe of my video. I'm like, oh, this is way out of focus. But I had a good time shooting it. [00:10:54] Speaker B: So when it comes to looking after wiping, are you more of the looker and he's the more of the just let it ride or what? [00:11:03] Speaker A: It's almost to a detriment on both sides. Yeah, I would say he goes too analytical. And I go, I don't give a. [00:11:09] Speaker C: Wait, so you don't look when you wipe? And he looks. [00:11:11] Speaker A: Oh, dude, wait, we're gonna get in the washcloth thing right now. [00:11:20] Speaker C: You don't care? [00:11:20] Speaker A: No. [00:11:21] Speaker C: We have it on record here that [00:11:22] Speaker A: you just buy dude wipes. So. I wipe all the time. But do you look at it when it's after? Yeah, yeah. It's got weird shapes and it's like clouds. I'm like, oh, there's Abraham Lincoln. [00:11:34] Speaker C: There's Ryan. [00:11:38] Speaker A: Oh, my God. [00:11:39] Speaker D: Dude. I think it was. I was worried about this. I was really worried about this podcast. [00:11:43] Speaker C: That's where we needed it to go. [00:11:45] Speaker A: There you go. [00:11:45] Speaker C: There you go. [00:11:46] Speaker D: All right. [00:11:46] Speaker C: Come on. What about you? What do you do in your free time as far as freelance? Because you're also full time doing this and you have a podcast. [00:11:54] Speaker A: I do, and I gotta get you guys on there. It's all about superheroes and like that. [00:11:58] Speaker B: But I don't know anything about superheroes, though. [00:12:00] Speaker A: I can tell. Talk about people like us, but I am. I've been in front of the camera for a long time, and it helps me behind the camera make people feel open and welcome. If I can make me look goofy, they feel like they can act goofy. [00:12:15] Speaker D: It's one of Pat's best things. Every single person he comes up to is comfortable with them. [00:12:19] Speaker A: Most of the people are like, what are you? And what is this? [00:12:22] Speaker C: Yeah, like, well, because it's uncomfortable for them anytime. [00:12:25] Speaker A: Smile. And everybody's like, yeah, exactly. So I come up and I'm like, yo, yo, yo, hey, don't you owe me money to some random guy? And he's like, what? I'm like, just kidding. How we doing? And just like, throw them off their kill. Just make them confused at first, and then they're like, this is out of the normal day that we've had. This is. [00:12:44] Speaker C: You know. [00:12:44] Speaker A: So I try to make them just feel special, personable, and have the best time they could possibly have. [00:12:51] Speaker D: Pat told me the other night that he had like 20 people in the crowd on the pit that was just like, thank you for, you know, creating a great vibe and we're happy to be here. [00:12:59] Speaker A: And someone with diabetes. Someone with diabetes was about to pass out and I gave my unlunchable. Unlunchable, Uncrustable. Uncrustable from my pocket. It was in there for like weeks, but they ate it. And they're good. [00:13:10] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:13:13] Speaker B: So, you know, I talk better than unlunchable. [00:13:15] Speaker A: You know, I talk with where I. I don't know where I'm gonna end when I talk. Oh, yeah, I know most of the time. [00:13:19] Speaker C: And it's fun when I'm on. Like last night I was sitting there and I saw all the interaction with you and some security. I saw interactions with some other people. And it's fun to watch you bounce around like a pinball and just interacting with everybody. [00:13:34] Speaker D: It's very fun. [00:13:34] Speaker A: Tell them a story about you shooting. [00:13:36] Speaker D: Oh, okay. So my favorite thing about going out with Pat, I really got this at Taylorville. Rip that. [00:13:41] Speaker A: That was Rip. [00:13:42] Speaker D: Rip. And we'd be running around and Pat would go up to a group of people and I'd be on like a long lens behind him to get photos and he'd do his thing. And the next. The next thing I know, like, everybody runs when he runs away. Everybody's face is just left in a perfect smile. And that's when I get most of my photos. [00:13:58] Speaker A: Yeah. They're like, what was that? Who was that? [00:14:00] Speaker D: It is. It's very fun to see because they're all like, what just happened? [00:14:05] Speaker A: I didn't know that happened. Cuz I walk away. I don't think they think about me when I leave, but constantly they're going to tell their kids about me. [00:14:10] Speaker C: Absolutely. You're people do a little bit. [00:14:13] Speaker D: Okay. [00:14:13] Speaker C: You are a personality here. And he's kind of more the silent. [00:14:16] Speaker A: You know, my mom, silent assassin. [00:14:18] Speaker C: As far as just kind of. [00:14:19] Speaker D: I will take that to the bank. [00:14:20] Speaker C: I love it. It's kind of a up thing to say at a festival though. But silent assassination, I would say that you are kind of off in the distance. And I look over and then he'll be snapping those photos where you're like, well, we can't. You're in the trenches. [00:14:30] Speaker A: We can't get five minutes to a crowd without me losing him because. Well, without. Because I'm like you losing me to everyone. And I'm like, yeah, Dan just gave up. Dan just. [00:14:40] Speaker D: Well, it's. I I like candid moments. I like catching people when they don't know I'm there, because that's, like, the most organic stuff, and that's the opposite. Yeah. Pat makes a lot of moments, so he makes the moment. I get the candid shot of it. It's. It's a great yin yang. [00:14:54] Speaker A: Absolutely. [00:14:54] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:14:55] Speaker C: Well, for me, Taylor's getting ready to go on. I really want to do another one of these with all four of us. Yeah, let's sit down. When you're in town, that's probably the most difficult thing, but, dude, we got to sit down because there's so many other comments I have. So we have to have a part two to this the story, because I have questions and comments for both. [00:15:12] Speaker A: I didn't think you would make it this year. Yeah, I really didn't. [00:15:15] Speaker D: What? [00:15:16] Speaker C: You didn't think I would make it? [00:15:17] Speaker A: Yeah, dude. [00:15:18] Speaker C: Really? [00:15:18] Speaker A: You went hard last year, dude. [00:15:20] Speaker D: Ignore this guy. [00:15:21] Speaker C: Try my best, dude. [00:15:22] Speaker A: And then. And then you're. And then you gave me the best bread I've ever tasted yesterday. You got some jalapeno. I got faith in this guy. [00:15:30] Speaker B: Yeah. Yes. [00:15:31] Speaker A: All right, cheers. [00:15:32] Speaker D: Cheers, guys. Thanks for having, I don't know, drinking. [00:15:36] Speaker A: Appreciate you, man. [00:15:37] Speaker D: Got a shotgun. This. What the hell is this? [00:15:40] Speaker C: It's probably warm. This cold one's in there.
